Where To Begin?????

WOW...where indeed...so much to tell...enormous stuff to report...the Barter is the best of the best and we are head over heels in love with it, with its people, with the entire enormous and gifted group of staff, artists, everyone!

There is an overwhelming sense of mission deeply instilled in everyone who works here and this makes it an inspiring place to be part of.....we used to joke in rehearsal...and a t-shirt was even made of it, which Rick Rose handed out at the start of one season, several years ago: BARTER THEATRE. WHERE YOUR BEST IS JUST NOT GOOD ENOUGH!!! and the reason that is so gently humorous is because, as good as everyone here is at their jobs ( and everyone is very very good at what they do here), each and everyone wants to always do better and do more...that is what makes it work here: everyone cares! everyone wants it to be the best theter in the country....everyone wants people to join us and make the 75th Year Season unavoidable: the astonishing new marketing line:
"Don't miss a moment" is how everyone feels.

I spoke to a wonderful Kiwanis Club today in Erwin ,Tennessee...what an amazing group of caring people. I had such a good time with these lovely folks. And my prepared speech seemed to go over well with the crowd...i do know that I enjoyed myself enormously! I discovered, in researching the Kiwanis Clubs, that the word :kiwanis" comes from an American Indian phrase 'nunc ki-wanis" which means "I trade" , "I share mwhat I do with others".....amazing, right? SO I joked that maybe the Barter Theatre might as well be called the Kiwanis Theatre.......our missions are so closely allied.....it was a warm and welcoming room, that meeting today. I am so glad I went. I am finding this new initiative I have been assigned: this outreach mission, to be very inspiring in its own right. So many aspects to it, as I discover what it means and how it can help the theater and the community join together more and more. Each day is full and presents its own challenges. But I like them.

I have also discovered a marvelos poetry club in town. ...a gathering of smart and talented writers. Very glad about that as well.

More soon, with photos, I hope!

I send love to all......
